About Marie
When Marie was twenty-four, she was introduced to the power of meditation by a nurse. Due to a complex break in her left tibia and subsequent infection, she was facing the possibility of having her left leg amputated. Marie wholeheartedly believes the breathing, mindfulness, visualization, and affirmation techniques she practised healed her leg.
Now at fifty-six, Marie is a certified yoga instructor, who’s personal meditation practise continues to be a key source of upkeep to support her as she moves
through life with multiple disabilities. Having reaped so many benefits from the practise of meditation she is thrilled to facilitate personalized mediations for
others.
Meditation Offerings with Marie
Why Meditate?
Meditation is exercise for your brain. Just as your entire being reaps many benefits from a cardiovascular work out or a brisk walk it also does from meditating. A person who mediates is referred to as a practitioner. It’s a myth that you need an empty mind to meditate. It’s the job of the brain to think. It always does, even while you’re sleeping. Through a dedicated practise of meditation, you can learn to peacefully co-exist with your thoughts, and during times of turmoil you may find yourself experiencing them with a sense of calm.
Why Meditate with Marie?
Marie has found her own meditation practise to be an extremely beneficial and healing part of her life. As a woman with multiple disabilities, she has used mediation as a tool to enhance her health and overall well being. It has proven to be tried and true. Her love for the practise and for humankind springs forth in her work. Marie’s voice has been compared to, “liquid gold.”
Collaborating with Marie to develop personalized meditations tailored to your needs and desires will foster a sense accomplishment and ground you in your practise. This would apply whether you are new to meditation or an experienced
practitioner.
Types of Meditations Offered by Marie
Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfulness meditation is the practise of intentionally focusing on the present moment. During this meditation you will consider the nine qualities of mindfulness: non-judging, acceptance, patience, beginners mind, trust, non-striving, letting go, gratitude and generosity. Although mindfulness is encouraged at anytime, while being guided it could be done either seated or laying down the important thing is for the spine to be straight.
Metta Meditation
Metta, or loving kindness meditation is an active meditation. Rather than focusing inwards the practitioner is sending their love out! This practise has worked wonders to overcome feelings of negativity and self doubt. Metta is a systematic flow of sharing kind words. The four types of persons to develop loving kindness towards are:
- a highly respected person possibly a spiritual teacher,
- a beloved being, a loved one or a pet,
- a neutral person, maybe a shop keeper,
- a person you may be having conflict with
This meditation may be done sitting or laying down. The important thing is for the spine to be straight.
Body Scan
A body scan is a favorite of many meditation practitioners. It offers complete release of muscle tension, allowing the practitioner to get into their parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest). A body scan can also capture the attention of the roving mind and train it to go inward and be disciplined.
These scans are best done laying down. *Often a short body scan is included as a prelude to the other mentioned practises.
Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is known as “the yogic sleep”. It is a deep relaxation technique, when achieved the practitioner is in the state between wakefulness and sleeping.
Amongst the many benefits, a practitioner can get the equivalent to a few hours rest from one session therefore it’s not recommended to practice before bed. Yoga Nidra has a systematic flow to it. The facilitator walks the practitioner through a journey of the five Koshas. (Physical Body, Energy Body, Mental Body, Wisdom Body and Bliss Body) This practise is best done laying down. *a body scan is part of this practise; it is known as the “Rotation of Consciousness.”
Chakra Meditation
The word Chakra means wheel or disk. There are seven main Chakra’s that align with the spine, starting at the base moving up to the crown. They are the Root, Sacrum, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye and Crown. Chakras are thought of as invisible spinning disks of energy. It is important to keep this energy flowing, a meditation can encourage any energy blockages to release. This practise may be done in a seated or laying down position, as long as the spine is straight.
Personalized Affirmations
An affirmation is a positive statement or declaration. It is scientifically proven that affirmations can aid in creating new neural pathways to either relearn a thought process or start a whole new way of thinking. Considering that our thinking impacts the way we feel and act, having loving and kind self-talk can positively impact every aspect of one’s life. This meditation may be done sitting, laying down or on the go.
Personalized Guided Visualization
Using the imagination and powers of visualisation the practitioner will be guided to imagine an object, entity, scenery or journey possibly a combination of the like.
Practitioners often find these mediations extremely healing and relaxing, although some like to raise the bar and use the imagery to face fears.
This meditation may be done, sitting or laying.
